Private Equity: The In-the-Ground Problem

Even those private equity investors who are able to overcome the barriers to entry as mentioned in previous papers, face an even more daunting challenge: obtaining and maintaining private equity exposure. In other words, even when they want to put capital to work and keep it invested, they are limited in their abilities to do so. This challenge is widely called the “in-the-ground” problem.
